Crosspost from stilcookiedough, my wife's blog:Hey Everybody! I'm turning 30!
I figured the best way to celebrate would be to have a camp out on the property behind our house. We'll be paryting from Mayy 22nd-25th. Bring your tents and your mead and bring everyone you know- the more the merrier. Even if you can't come for the whole time, you can make it out here at some point during the weekend. We don't live that far out of Austin.

The parent company of our local NBC affiliate just pulled their signal from our cable company!
The parent company (LIN TV) of the Austin NBC affiliate (KXAN) wants the cable company (Time Warner) to pay for the signal. The same signal that you can get for free from an antenna.
The cable company has been running a looping PSA on the channel explaining what's going on, how you can still watch (some) of the shows on NBC.com (bypassing the affiliate and their parent company), and how to hook up your computer to your TV for an "enhanced viewing experience".
Time Warner Cable has also been advertising on this PSA a website that they have set up that explains what's going on: http://thetruthhurtskxan.com You can watch parts of the PSA there.
I wanted to record the PSA, but unfortunately I left my TV tuner at the new house. I'll grab it soon and bring it back to the apartment and will record it if it's still playing.
As the cable company states, "negotiations have broke down" (but are still going). I think it's starting to become a lot worse than just "broke down", so grab the popcorn--the best thing on TV is TV itself!
Edit: Also check out KXAN's page about the controversy: http://blogs.kxan.com/kxanTimeWarner As you can see, each page blames the other.
Personally, I'm loving all of this! Whenever two market leaders but heads, it gives competition a window to gain market share. Any ground gained towards equal market share reduces prices benefiting the customer in the long run, even if there are short-term inconveniences. Let the battle continue!!

Computer support for Bastrop ISD. Actually, since I'll be doing mostly laptop support, it'll be a lot like my current job. Different toys, different userbase, different location, but better pay (even after factoring in gas) and less red tape (I hope). |

Ok, so I'm a coupon addict. I don't necessarily go to the grocery store with a book of them, but I do often let coupons influence my choice of restaurant.
Well, Google (care of Download Squad) is now feeding the addiction with their Coupon Search. Give it a location, it'll spit out the closest coupons to that location via Google Maps.

If anybody's doing the "Get a free Coke with 8 caps @ mycokerewards.com" thing, I bought a Cherry Coka-Cola, and am not going to use my code.
Take mine, but please post here if you do so that others will know it's been used. Thanks!

So, last friday I drove to work in the Suzuki, but I had Jen pick me up from work in the PT Cruiser after work on the way to Super Salad, so we left the Suzuki at my work's parking lot.
This morning, Jen left early to go to her new job and asked me to take Maggie to puppy day care, as well as to pick her up since my new 9-5:30 schedule allows me to pick her up by 6. Well, I didn't realize until she had left that the Suzuki was still at work. At 8am, while I was out squeezing the dog, I noticed that our neighbor (who had agreed to watch Maggie during Akon) was outside, so I asked him if he could drive me to work, since it's pretty close as far as driving is concerned, but not as far as walking is concerned. He didn't mind, and drove me to the work.
At 8:07 I got back home with the Suzuki, brushed teeth, deodorized, packed a lunch, and put Maggie and myself in the Suzuki by 8:15.
Though stalled by two school zones, we got to puppy day care by 8:30. I took Maggie inside and went back to the Suzuki, where I heard a train in the distance. 30 minutes is plenty of time to get back to work, and realizing that I just barely made it through Oltorf before the train cut it off, I could take Ben White back to work. 30 minutes, however is not enough time to get gas and make it to work. I think I have enough to pick up the pup after work and get to a station, though.
Anyways, I get to work, even a bit early, and realize that my badge is in the arm rest of the PT Cruiser because I left work by that vehicle on Friday. I attempt to call Jen to verify that the badge is there, but her phone's turned off. So, I walk the long way to work's front gate, get a temp badge, and still arrive at my desk a minute or two before 9. |

I'm trying to find a web service that will monitor another site for updates and will notify me of those changes via an RSS feed.
Essentially, I want to view pages that update their content, yet have no RSS feed, in my RSS reader. Anybody seen a site like that? |

If you're going to get two biscuit sandwhiches making one of them a combo, check your prices. Wataburger's Bacon Egg and Cheese Biscuit combo is the same price as their Chicken Biscuit combo. However, when ordered without the combo, the Chicken Biscuit is more expensive. Therefore, you save by getting the BE&C biscuit alone, and making the chicken biscuit be the combo, instead of the other way around.
I believe McDonalds has a similar catch on their breakfast menu.. |

Good gawd, anybody remember Southpark Meadows, that open grassy field that I think they used to have concerts on?
It's now a humungoid strip center with so many shops it's as if Lakeline threw up at I-35 and Slaughter Lane.
What started with a Super Wal-Mart has turned into a shopping zone the size of a San Marcos outllet mall, but with normal mall and strip center businesses.
They've already opened a Hobby Lobby, Ross, BB&B, Circuit City, Office something, Lane Bryant, Rooms-to-Go, Game Stop, PetSmart, and on the opposite corner a Home Depot, as well as lots of fast food joints.
JCPenny's looks nearly complete. In one of the sets that has most of the rockwork nearly complete, they have signs showing which will become a Jason's Deli, Waterloo IceHouse, Jamba Juice, Austin Java (I think), a mexican restaurant, and a few other food outlets all clustered around a large playscape. I wouldn't be surprised if these become finished when we're not paying attention.
There still many vacant spots between businesses in the strips, as well as many untouched pad sites marked off and labeled available. One that is currently flattened dirt and rock, no foundation poured yet, will soon become a Borders the signs say. There's enough flatened dirt next to the JCPenny's to put another equally sized department store.
I wouldn't be surprised if many of their competitors suddenly show up on an opposite corner. Ooo! Maybe they'll finally open a Fozoli's down here. :) |
